Trust

Father, we believe that when we see you, any suffering that we endured on the face of this earth will be worth it. Help us to understand. And when we cannot understand, help us to trust.

Shortly after my last post, Kaitlyn's heart rate got really high (170s) and her oxygen was low (70s). Her toes are purple and her hands and feet are cold. She is struggling to breathe. We are by her side and loving on her as much as we can.

Please keep her in your prayers. Pray for her struggles to ease and for her to find comfort and know that we all love her.

  54. I think of the hymn "It is Well" by Horatio Spafford. Some of the lyrics:
"When peace like a river attended my way; when sorrow like sea-billows roll. Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, it is well with my soul."

He wrote this while traveling across the Atlantic, to rejoin his wife after losing all 3 of his daughter to a shipwreck. Such an amazing testament to trusting God's sovereignty! I pray that, whatever happens, God will grant you strength and peace for your soul. He holds Kaitlyn in His strong hand!

  63. Father in Heaven,
You hear our prayers. I've only recently learned of Kaitlyn's journey to you and recognize that through your plan she is bringing us all on this journey. May we all know you better and love you more so this family has not struggled in vain. Your works are miraculous...even if we don't see it in this world. Father, just as her parents have held their child until she peacefully fell asleep please hold Kaitlyn in your almighty embrace so she may know everlasting peace. It is difficult to give thanks in all things but you have brought many strangers together to love this family in their darkest hour. Thank you, Father, for teaching us to love. Thank you for blessing us with Kaitlyn. Amen.

  69. I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!"

    "Gone where?"

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!" there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: 'Here she comes!"

    And that is dying.
    Henry Van Dyke

Words that have helped me through some of my darkest hours...I pray that they help you as well. When it is her time, she will be welcomed with such glory...such a precious child...

  78. On more than one occassion, I have begun to type messages...messages that I subsequently deleted because I can't imagine that the words I could share would bring any comfort to you during this difficult time.

I have two little girls. I know that words would not provide me great comfort in such a difficult time. You are exceptional people.

I have been following Kaitlyn's story for some time.

I posted on your blog in the past when it seemed as though Kaitlyn was nearing the end of life. She pulled through ---

Kaitlyn has indeed served as an inspiration to me. I hold my children closer, and recognize the precious gift of life that was bestowed upon us... as individuals, as parents, and as a human race.

Your daughter, in her short life, has connected people and grounded people in a way that many couldn't do in 50 times her lifetime. I know you understand how precious she is... and how precious your son is.

As you continue to create norms at a time when normlessness rules your lives, I pray for you often and think of you even more.

Your little girl has served a greater purpose --- unimaginable and incomprehensible to us.

I pray that you can heal from her this trying time and ultimately from her loss, and that your family never regrets the greatness she has brought to others lives.

    God bless all of you.

  82. Kaitlyn, when you get to heaven I am sure sometime you will run into my son, Jason. He has been there for over 20 months now and knows his way around. He left suddenly at the age of 22. He is great fun for little girls and his 2 nieces miss him so much. I'm sure he will play with you as you are able to run and jump. When you see him, would you please tell him his mom loves him and misses him so much. We didn't get a chance to tell him good bye. He also gives great hugs so when he picks you up to throw you in the air, give him a hug from me also. Kaitlyn, I am sorry you have had to suffer so much in your time here on earth, but I am excited for the experience you will soon have with Jesus and all of those who are already in his presence. Someday your family will join you and Jason's family will be there too. I look forward to meeting you then since I have only read about you thus far. Thank your family for sharing you with others thru this blog. Good bye sweet Kaitlyn until we see you in heaven! Love, Joann Marner

To Kaitlyn's mom, dad and brother.....I have been praying and crying for you since I found this blog. May God grant you peace as you walk this path. I have no words to ease your pain. 84. I have followed silently for some time and although I have never met any of you, and maybe never will, I feel as though your posts and words of strength are coming from neighbors next door that I have known for years. Your words of courage, faith and love have touched people from far and near and are reflected in the numerous comments that have been posted over time.

I pray that you and your family have peace, understanding, and that you are able to grasp the impact that Kaitlyn and your entire family have had on others during this journey. I also pray for continued faith, strength, and guidance in the hours and days ahead. As a parent, I cannot even imagine the intense days you have faced, and those that are still to come; yet, through your words, it appears as though you have danced gracefully through each one. Thank you for sharing your journey and reshaping life for those of us that often take so much for granted.

I hope that the next step of this journey leads all of you to peace, comfort and reassurance that Kaitlyn's life is exactly what God intended, and I feel certain that when she crosses into her heavenly home she will hear "my child, well done."

Sending prayers your way and asking that God's arms draw each of you closer and that you will find peace for the days ahead. Praying-Carrie

  108. My devotional last night really spoke to me about your family. It was about how wonderful it is to know that when we are believers in Christ, no good-bye we say is forever. As you prepare to say good-bye, it should really be "See you later." You're always on my mind and in my prayers.

  109. I came across your blog after being up at 4:30 am with my 8 month old. As frustrated and exhausted as I was, I couldn't go back to sleep. A friend had mentioned Kaitlyn's Korner in a recent Facebook post so I followed the link to find the most amazing story of strength, faith and love. I read from about Thanksgiving until today. I'm heartbroken and can't stop thinking of you all. You mentioned that Kaitlyn would surprise you by bouncing back maybe because she knew there were more people who needed to know her story. I think I was one of those people. I sat crying thinking and praying for your family and thanking God for mine. I felt an enormous amount of guilt for being so frustrated that my healthy 8 month old had interupted my sleep. Reading Kaitlyn's story has inspired me to have more patience and give more thanks to what has been given to us. May you all find peace and comfort in God and in the arms of your loved ones. God bless your family.
